Episode 9: Repo Man
Thursday Apr 04, 2019
Thursday Apr 04, 2019
We're gonna have an O/S/T Party tonight, alright? Alright!
This week, we are joined by Niel Jacoby, cohost of the podcast Spall Talk, to discuss the soundtrack to Alex Cox's 1984 punk rock sci-fi opus REPO MAN!
Repo Man is a deeply strange film about punks repossessing cars, government conspiracies, alien life forms, and the soul-crushing nihilism of Reagan-era Los Angeles. On top of that, it's a film that wears its punk rock influence on its sleeve. With a theme song by Iggy Pop, and featuring 80s punk mainstays like Black Flag, Fear, and Suicidal Tendencies, this soundtrack is a crash course in the LA punk scene in the mid-80s. Thrash, hardcore, surf rock, new wave, etc. Repo Man has a little something for everyone.
SHOW NOTES:
Intro: "Dance Rocket" by Jesse Spillane
Outro: "TV Party" by Black Flag

Episode 8: Top Gun
Thursday Mar 21, 2019
Thursday Mar 21, 2019
On this episode, we take to the skies to discuss the smash hit soundtrack to the most 80s movie ever made: TOP GUN! This soundtrack is full of hard-rockin', synth-wavin', oldie-croonin' radio cheese, so it's no wonder people bought it nine million times. Half the soundtrack barely even registers on this episode, because we're trapped in the thrall of Kenny Loggins, Giorgio Moroder, and Val Kilmer's perfectly chiseled everything.
Also we dig deep into the film's thinly-veiled subtext, and try to figure out why people still hold Maverick's exploits in such high regard. Come join us and let us know what you think!

Outro: "Top Gun Anthem" by Harold Faltermeyer

Episode 6: The Crow
Thursday Feb 21, 2019
Thursday Feb 21, 2019
Devil's Night may not be until October, but that's no reason not to FIRE IT UP! FIRE IT UP! FIRE IT UP!
On this episode of The O/S/T Party, we discuss THE CROW, the 1994 dark comic fantasy that served as Brandon Lee's tragic swansong, and launched the goth phase for a million terrible 90s kids. This soundtrack was one of the surprise hits of the mid-90s, mostly remembered now for Nine Inch Nails covering Joy Division, a pretty decent soundtrack cut from The Cure, and another appearance from our pals My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult!
But did you know this soundtrack also features Rage Against the Machine? Or Rollins Band? Or Pantera? Or Violent Femmes? Why, you ask? Well, we don't really address it in this episode, but it just goes to show how many heavy hitters they managed to cram onto one disc.

A savior waits in the wings to deliver us from Mr. Mouth and his gang of bowling shirts. That hero is none other than Tom Waits, whose story is intertwined with Smash Mouth for better or for worse!

Thursday Jan 24, 2019
Alright you 'noids, brace yourselves because this week we're diving into a world full of early-90s EDM, horny cel animation and acid-washed cartoon freakouts. That's right, on this episode we're talking about COOL WORLD, Ralph Bakshi's 1992 Roger Rabbit-inspired fever dream starring Brad Pitt, Kim Basinger and Gabriel Byrne.
This is an album loaded with '80s dance holdovers, early-90s mainstays and the odd industrial track, because that's just how we rolled in 1992. Find out what makes this album tick, how many times The Cult squeezed "The Witch" for a few extra bucks, how the film can be viewed through the lens of postwar PTSD, and a whole lot more!

Grab your hoverboards and count up your jigowatts, because it's time to go back! To the future, that is! This week, Joe and Libby discuss the entire Back to the Future trilogy and the music that made it iconic. Who is the narrator of "Back in Time"? How much "Power of Love" is too much? Are we seriously going to just let Eric Clapton reggae up this soundtrack? The answers to these questions, and more, are waiting inside!

Episode 2: Batman Forever
Thursday Dec 20, 2018
Thursday Dec 20, 2018
Riddle me this, riddle me that, how many tunes were inspired by the Bat?This edition of The O/S/T Party finds Libby & Joe diving into the mid-90s superhero muck that is Batman Forever. It's a neon dayglo nightmare, and the soundtrack is no different, full of smooth R&B, college rock leftovers and one or two of the best songs of the 90s.
Not only did this album spawn SIX. RADIO. SINGLES. ("Kiss From a Rose", anyone?) It also sold millions of copies, would be nominated for, win AND lose Grammy awards, and inspired one of the most baffling animated music videos of all time.
Also in this episode, we discuss middle-aged teenager Dick Grayson, how and why this film became The Jim Carrey Show, Tommy Lee Jones' immortal putdown, and just the general rock opera-ness of the whole production. Strap yourselves in, folks. This episode goes some places!
SHOW NOTES:
The video for U2's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" must be seen to be believed.
Reminder to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more updates!
Stay tuned for a brand new episode after the new year!
Happy Holidays and safe travels everybody!
