Episode 44: Hobgoblins
Thursday Oct 29, 2020
Thursday Oct 29, 2020
Happy Halloween, everybody! It's time to party down with another one of Libby's favorite wackadoo cult classics. It's Hobgoblins! It's a film that looks an awful lot like Gremlins or Critters, but has its own set of tricks up its sleeve. Famously one of the worst films ever covered on "Mystery Science Theater 3000", Hobgoblins features a soundtrack by post-punk band The Fontanelles. The band also appears in the film, playing the song "Kiss Kicker 99" to a room of roughly six people.
In this episode we break down the Fontanelles' soundtrack, talk about some of our favorite MST3K bits, and ponder whether or not Hobgoblins inspired some classic 90s cartoons. Hey, maybe it did, maybe it didn't. Anywhoo, come join the party!
SHOW NOTES:

Episode 43: The Karate Kid
Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Seems like everyone is raving about the Cobra Kai series right now, so what better time to jump waaay back to 1984 and discuss the original? It's The Karate Kid this week on The OST Party! This one is a personal favorite of Joe's, and we get into a lot of why this film still works so well some 36 years later.
And as popular as the film is, you'd think the soundtrack would be wall to wall bangers, right? Well, aside from Joe Esposito's "You're The Best", this soundtrack is surprisingly...dull. You probably know "You're The Best" was rejected from Rocky III in favor of Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger". But did you know Survivor has a song on this album too? What if we told you theirs is the theme song for the movie??? Yeah, it's ridiculous. And we'll tell you all about it!

Episode 42: Down With Love
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
It's time to go back to the 60s, when men were men, women were women, and sex was only referenced with vague hand gestures and sideways glances. This week we dive into the soundtrack to 2003's Down With Love.
Renée Zellweger is a self help guru whose book is liberating women's sex drives the world over. Ewan McGregor is the dashing reporter hellbent on exposing her as a massive phony. Together, they fight crime! Wait, no... They fall in love. Or maybe not. Who's to say? At any rate, the soundtrack features standards from Frank Sinatra and Xavier Cugat, a healthy dose of Michael Bublé, and even a song by Renee and Ewan themselves. (It's a treat!) So mix yourself a martini and join us in the smoking lounge...
SHOW NOTES:
Down With Love is available to stream here

Episode 41: Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
Thursday Sep 03, 2020
Thursday Sep 03, 2020
With the release of Bill & Ted Face The Music, we return to bring you more musical madness courtesy of Wyld Stallyns and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. It's a film near and dear to Joe's strange, twisted heart!
Bogus Journey is a snapshot of the moment when hair metal acts like Winger and Neverland began to fall out of favor as alt-rock acts like Primus and Faith No More began to hit the mainstream. Landing just before Nirvana's "Nevermind," it was a musical changing of the guard, and the blending of the two works well for the film's darker tone.
And to top it off, we've got epic riffs from Steve Vai, funky metal tracks from King's X and Ritchie Kotzen, and KISS doing a fittingly reverent cover of Argent's "God Gave Rock & Roll To You". Come join us and party on, dudes!

Episode 40: Dispatches from Cartoon Planet

Thursday Aug 20, 2020
This week we're taking a break from Hellworld 2020 and returning to the comedy albums of our youth. Specifically, we're discussing Space Ghost's Musical Bar-B-Que and Space Ghost's Surf & Turf, the two soundtrack albums from Cartoon Network's Cartoon Planet. For the unfamiliar, Cartoon Planet was the sister show to Space Ghost Coast to Coast, in which Space Ghost and his pals Brak and Zorak sing silly songs, perform comedy skits and just generally be goofballs. If you were young in the mid-to-late 90s, you probably stumbled across this show late at night and wondered what the hell you were watching. On this episode, we cherrypick a few favorites from these albums, which is no small feat. Both albums together feature nearly fifty songs, so we're only scratching the surface! Believe it, buddy!

Episode 39: Dick Tracy
Friday Aug 07, 2020
Friday Aug 07, 2020
Calling all listeners! This week on the podcast, we're discussing the soundtrack to 1990's Dick Tracy! This was Disney's attempt to cash in on the sudden phenomenon that was Tim Burton's Batman. To do that, they hired Warren Beatty, Madonna and Al Pacino to bring the 1930s crimestopper comic to life. The result is...bizarre, to say the least.
But like Batman, Dick Tracy was a marketing bonanza. There were toys, comics, video games, and THREE soundtrack albums! Not only did we get an entire album of new material from Madonna and Stephen Sondheim, we also got a Danny Elfman score and an OST compilation of snappy 1930s soundalikes full of pep, vim and verve! And, just for good measure, Ice-T shows up to explain the plot to us in rap form! What more could you possibly want???
SHOW NOTES:

Episode 38: The Lost Boys
Thursday Jul 23, 2020
Thursday Jul 23, 2020
In honor of the late, great Joel Schumacher, this week we're headed back to the 80s to discuss Schumacher's teen goth vampire classic The Lost Boys!
Kiefer Sutherland and his gang of bleach blonde vampires seduce moody teen Jason Patric to their flock, while the latter's younger brother Corey Haim teams up with vampire hunter Corey Feldman to destroy them. It's all very silly, and the soundtrack is no different. This one introduces some future goth staples, and also brings us Echo and the Bunnymen covering The Doors, as well as Roger Daltrey covering Elton John. People are strange, and so is this album. Also in this episode, Joe and Libby reminisce about video stores, carnival rides, taxidermy and a whole lot more!
SHOW NOTES:
