Episode 18: Streets of Fire
Friday Aug 30, 2019
Friday Aug 30, 2019
On this episode, we're digging into Walter Hill's 1984 rock n' roll fable STREETS OF FIRE! It's a musical with numbers that can level entire city blocks. It's an aggressively '80s take on motorcycle gangs of the '50s. It's a wannabe western starring a stoic hero with a duster and a Winchester. It's all of these things and so much more.Michael Paré is Tom Cody, a drifter hired to rescue his ex-girlfriend, rock singer Ellen Aim (Diane Lane) from the clutches of Willem Dafoe's Raven and his Bomber gang. The soundtrack features cuts from The Fixx and The Blasters, as well as songs written by Jim Steinman, Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks.
It's a classic rock spectacle the likes of which we've never seen and perhaps will never see again. Come join us on this journey through a comic book vision of the 1950s that never was...

Episode 17: Super Mario Bros.
Friday Aug 09, 2019
Friday Aug 09, 2019
This week on The O/S/T Party, we're jumping through a portal into another dimension to walk some dinosaurs and discuss the soundtrack to 1993's SUPER MARIO BROS! It's a film that pushes viewers to the breakpoint and offers so much off-the-wall creativity, it's almost unreal.
Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, an Englishman and a Colombian, play Italian brothers chasing a kidnapped princess into a dimension where an industrialist dinosaur-man played by Dennis Hopper rules his city with an iron fist. All of this is somehow based on a video game.
As for the soundtrack we've got a would-be hit single from Roxette, random cuts from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Joe Satriani and Queen, and George Clinton delivers the grandest, goofiest cover of "Walk The Dinosaur" you'll ever need. There's some big, beautiful weirdness in this soundtrack—and the movie as a whole—and we'll get into all of it!
SHOW NOTES:
Super Mario Bros. is only available on DVD.

Episode 16: My Fellow Americans
Thursday Jul 18, 2019
Thursday Jul 18, 2019
On this week's episode, we want to share with our fellow Americans (and international friends) one of our favorite forgotten 90s comedies: My Fellow Americans! Two ex-presidents (Jack Lemmon and James Garner) go on the lam after a government cover-up leads to their attempted assassination, and the only way to save their skins is by taking a road trip to Ohio! That's right, it's another one of those movies.
As for the soundtrack, we've got an eclectic mix of jazz oldies from Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, classic rock from Elvis Presley and CCR, and a couple of real oddball cover songs! But how well does it represent the film? That's what we're here to find out.
SHOW NOTES:
This film is available on DVD or wherever you rent On Demand

Episode 14: Beavis and Butt-Head Do America
Thursday Jun 20, 2019
Thursday Jun 20, 2019
This week we're hitting the road like Sam and Max! Or rather, like Beavis and Butthead, because on this week's episode we're discussing Beavis and Butt-Head Do America! If you had told us twenty years ago that THIS would be one of the 90s' most enduring comedies, we might have laughed in your face. Or we might have said, "Yes! That rules!" Because, honestly? This movie still rules. It's held up far better than one would expect.
And the soundtrack is peak 1996. We've got the tail end of 70s nostalgia with Isaac Hayes riffing on his famous Shaft theme. We've got a truly odd track from the one and only Engelbert Humperdinck. We also have cuts from White Zombie, Rancid, a pre-Tragic Kingdom No Doubt, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers delivering one of the best damn cover songs ever. It's a wild ride, so buckle up and don't forget the TP!

Episode 13: The Wedding Singer
Friday Jun 07, 2019
Friday Jun 07, 2019
It's time to hit the dance floor, people! On this episode of the O/S/T Party, we aren't just covering the soundtrack to Adam Sandler's 1998 rom-com The Wedding Singer. This week we're discussing EVERY SONG IN THE FILM! When your film revolves around a down-on-his-luck wedding singer warbling out 80s jukebox hits and screaming at newlyweds, as well as tons of homages to the heyday of MTV, how could we not?
It's hard to remember a time when The Wedding Singer wasn't simply another stop along the 80s nostalgia railroad, but this film actually predates that trend by a couple of years. This soundtrack features megahits from The Police, Culture Club and Billy Idol, as well as staples from artists such as New Order, The Psychadelic Furs, Elvis Costello and more! Join us as we break down this soundtrack hit by neon-soaked hit!

Episode 12: Godzilla '98
Wednesday May 22, 2019
Wednesday May 22, 2019
This week's episode is all about 1998's Godzilla, the summer blockbuster that proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that size doesn't actually matter. You would be hard pressed to find a movie soundtrack more 1998 than Godzilla: The Album. Featuring the likes of The Wallflowers, Jamiroquai, and Ben Folds Five, the soundtrack to Roland Emmerich's epic disaster is chock full of radio-friendly 90s rock, and also the artist formerly known as Puff Daddy shouting over a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir".
And then there's the movie, which is everything wrong with blockbuster filmmaking distilled into two hours of stupid. We get into all of it this week, as well as holding a Godzilla scream-off, make up our own Godzilla-themed song lyrics, and discuss why there's never been a bad cover of David Bowie's "Heroes".
SHOW NOTES:
Siskel & Ebert on Godzilla
The Wallflowers' music video for "Heroes"
Puff Daddy's music video for "Come With Me"
Jamiroquai's music video for "Deeper Underground"
OOPS: The Godzilla album is on vinyl! And in puke green!

Episode 11: Earth Girls Are Easy
Thursday May 09, 2019
Thursday May 09, 2019
This week we invite you to sit back, relax and have a mental margarita as we discuss the soundtrack to 1989's Earth Girls Are Easy. This movie is a lot of things all at once. It's a bouncy 80s sex comedy; it's a parody of MTV-obsessed LA youth; it's a sci-fi film with a wacko retro-future aesthetic. It's also a showcase for Julie Brown's brand of humor and music, and man do we get a lot of that!
We've also got the B-52s! And Nile Rodgers! And Hall & Oates covering The O'Jays! This soundtrack is all over the place, but how does it all hang together? Join us as we sort it all out.
SHOW NOTES:
Geena Davis singing "The Ground You Walk On"
Joe has discussed the Star Wars Holiday Special at length on his other podcast.
Intro: "Dance Rocket" by Jesse Spillane
Outro: "'Cause I'm a Blonde" by Julie Brown
