Episode 63: Teen Wolf Too
Friday Oct 29, 2021
Friday Oct 29, 2021
Happy Halloween! This week we bring you an episode about the much maligned 80s comedy sequel Teen Wolf Too. Jason Bateman, in his feature film debut, stars as the younger cousin to Michael J. Fox's original Teen Wolf. This time around, the werewolf goes to college, joins the school's boxing team, and... Look, it's literally the first film all over again. That's all you need to know.
But believe it or not, this film has a surprisingly decent soundtrack! We get two standout tracks from Oingo Boingo, a solid mix of 80s synthpop (B.G. Vox), southern rock (Desert Rose Band) and new wave (Real Life), and also an extremely misguided cover of The Contours' "Do You Love Me".

Episode 62: Grosse Pointe Blank
Monday Oct 18, 2021
Monday Oct 18, 2021
This week's podcast is all about the soundtrack to Grosse Pointe Blank! John Cusack plays contract killer Martin Blank, whose next job just happens to take place in his hometown on the weekend of his 10-year high school reunion.
And to help us break down this album, we've arranged a high school reunion of our own! Joining us this week is one of Libby's actual high school classmates, McKenzie Cassidy, author of the book Here Lies a Father!
As for the soundtrack? It was personally curated by John Cusack and The Clash's Joe Strummer, and it's almost entirely 80s new wave and two-tone ska. We got The Clash, The Specials, The English Beat, Violent Femmes, and Guns N Roses for some reason. So get out your yearbooks and put on your nametags, because the reunion's about to start!

Episode 61: Dirty Work
Friday Sep 24, 2021
Friday Sep 24, 2021
We pay tribute this week to the late, great Norm Macdonald with a look at his 1998 cult classic (and OST Party favorite) Dirty Work! And to help us do our own dirty work, we've enlisted the help of Johnny-5 from the Christmas Creeps podcast. Three Norm fans in one show. What could possibly go wrong?!
Now, this film doesn't have an official soundtrack album, but you best believe there are plenty of songs for us to discuss. Dirty Work is basically 1998 in movie form, so we get hit singles from Third Eye Blind, Chumbawamba, and Better Than Ezra, as well as appearances from AC/DC, The Reverend Horton Heat, and some weird song about pina coladas...

Episode 59: The Flintstones
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Yabba Dabba Doo! We couldn't let the summer end without covering a ridiculous summer blockbuster, and The Flintstones is most certainly that. The Steven Spielberg-produced, live-action adaptation of the 60s cartoon has to be seen to be believed. It's got gaudy caveman sets and costumes, John Goodman hamming it up as Fred Flintstone, and a wild soundtrack...
Good lord, the soundtrack. One half of this album features awkward attempts at caveman humor by the likes of The B(C)-52s, Big Audio Dynamite, and Us3. The other half is a bizarre collection of Flintstones novelty songs that predate the movie. And most of the tracks on this album feature artists or songs we've covered on this show already, including return appearances from Weird Al Yankovic and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. But there are definitely a few gems in here, so join us as we rock out to The Flintstones!

Episode 58: Married To The Mob
Thursday Aug 05, 2021
Thursday Aug 05, 2021
When was the last time you thought about Married To The Mob? We're willing to bet it's been a minute! Married To The Mob follows Michelle Pfeiffer as widowed mob wife Angela, who moves to Manhattan to escape Tony, the mob boss who killed her husband. And she soon learns the hard way that once you're in, you're in for life...The soundtrack is an expertly curated grab bag of 80s new wave artists. We've got singles from Debbie Harry, Chris Isaak, Ziggy Marley and Sinead O'Connor, all specifically recorded for this album! There's also tracks from New Order, The Tom Tom Club, and The Feelies. And yes, this film features the first (but certainly not the last) cinematic use of Q. Lazzarus' "Goodbye Horses"...

Episode 57: Clueless
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
No movie put a stamp on the mid-90s quite like Amy Heckerling's Clueless. Loosely adapted from Jane Austen's "Emma", Clueless follows a year in the life of Beverly Hills teen Cher as she plays matchmaker to teacher and student alike (but not, like, at the same time).
And the soundtrack is the rare album that actually helps tell the story. With tracks from 90s mainstays Luscious Jackson, Coolio, Cracker, Smoking Popes and more, the Clueless soundtrack is full of angst, social satire, and just some really solid tunes. Also in this episode, we encounter more 90s glam rock covers, Libby reminisces about the clothes that got away, and we fall backwards into a new name for ska!

Thursday Jun 24, 2021
Thursday Jun 24, 2021
School may be out for summer, but the School of Rock is now in session! Aspiring rocker Jack Black cons his way into a teaching job and shows a bunch of 5th graders how to rock. Along the way, he teaches them the finer points of classic rock history, gives them some lessons about self respect, and winds up learning to be a responsible adult. It's all very sweet.
And the soundtrack is loaded with choice classic rock cuts! We've got The Doors! We've got Led Zeppelin! AC/DC, Cream, The Who, The Stooges! And we even get a couple of more modern cuts from The Darkness and The Black Keys. Get ready to take notes, because this will all be on the test!
