Episode 49: A Knight's Tale
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
This week we fire up the Wayback Machine for a trap to the middle ages, when jousting was the sport of choice and classic rock tunes were somehow all the rage. That's right, it's time for A Knight's Tale! And pinch hitting for Libby this week is Nikki Shermer!
This soundtrack is full of classic rock staples we all know by heart. We've got Queen, David Bowie, Thin Lizzy, Sly & The Family Stone, and a whole lot more. And in between we discuss medieval times, the dinner show Medieval Times, places you'd want to be stabbed, and whether or not this movie is based on a Spin Doctors song. (It's probably not, but it definitely is!)

Episode 47: Scrooged
Thursday Dec 31, 2020
Thursday Dec 31, 2020
Welcome back, folks! We may have missed Christmas, but as this week's film reminds us, it's never too late. Round up some leftover wassail, put on your new fuzzy slippers, and join us as we break down the soundtrack to Richard Donner's 1988 "Christmas Carol" riff Scrooged!
Bill Murray plays Frank Cross, a jaded TV executive hellbent on producing the most tasteless Dickens adaptation ever seen. But he's soon visited by three spirits... You know how this one goes.
The soundtrack is not your traditional Christmas album. We get Natalie Cole and Miles Davis putting their spin on a couple holiday standards, but we also get wannabe holiday jams from Dan Hartman, Robbie Robertson and The New Voices of Freedom. And of course, there's the inescapable theme song from Annie Lennox and Al Green!

Episode 46: Jingle All The Way
Thursday Dec 10, 2020
Thursday Dec 10, 2020
Season's Greetings! This week on the podcast we bring you a Christmas movie soundtrack like no other. It's the soundtrack to the 1996 Christmas comedy Jingle All The Way! Arnold Schwarzenegger goes toe to toe with Sinbad in a race to find their kids the last Turboman doll in the city. Along the way we meet black market Santas, Martin Mull in a ponytail, and a reindeer named Ted!
And the soundtrack is an interesting beast, too. Half of it feels like a glimpse into a world where The Brian Setzer Orchestra completely scored the film from start to finish. The other half is populated by a handful of holiday standards you definitely know and love. It's a madcap tug of war in the name of 90s excess. Who wins? Join us and let's find out together!

Episode 44: Hobgoblins
Thursday Oct 29, 2020
Thursday Oct 29, 2020
Happy Halloween, everybody! It's time to party down with another one of Libby's favorite wackadoo cult classics. It's Hobgoblins! It's a film that looks an awful lot like Gremlins or Critters, but has its own set of tricks up its sleeve. Famously one of the worst films ever covered on "Mystery Science Theater 3000", Hobgoblins features a soundtrack by post-punk band The Fontanelles. The band also appears in the film, playing the song "Kiss Kicker 99" to a room of roughly six people.
In this episode we break down the Fontanelles' soundtrack, talk about some of our favorite MST3K bits, and ponder whether or not Hobgoblins inspired some classic 90s cartoons. Hey, maybe it did, maybe it didn't. Anywhoo, come join the party!

Episode 43: The Karate Kid
Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Seems like everyone is raving about the Cobra Kai series right now, so what better time to jump waaay back to 1984 and discuss the original? It's The Karate Kid this week on The OST Party! This one is a personal favorite of Joe's, and we get into a lot of why this film still works so well some 36 years later.
And as popular as the film is, you'd think the soundtrack would be wall to wall bangers, right? Well, aside from Joe Esposito's "You're The Best", this soundtrack is surprisingly...dull. You probably know "You're The Best" was rejected from Rocky III in favor of Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger". But did you know Survivor has a song on this album too? What if we told you theirs is the theme song for the movie??? Yeah, it's ridiculous. And we'll tell you all about it!

Episode 42: Down With Love
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
It's time to go back to the 60s, when men were men, women were women, and sex was only referenced with vague hand gestures and sideways glances. This week we dive into the soundtrack to 2003's Down With Love.
Renée Zellweger is a self help guru whose book is liberating women's sex drives the world over. Ewan McGregor is the dashing reporter hellbent on exposing her as a massive phony. Together, they fight crime! Wait, no... They fall in love. Or maybe not. Who's to say? At any rate, the soundtrack features standards from Frank Sinatra and Xavier Cugat, a healthy dose of Michael Bublé, and even a song by Renee and Ewan themselves. (It's a treat!) So mix yourself a martini and join us in the smoking lounge...
